Day turned to night during the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix as Nico Rosberg tasted champagne for the second race weekend in succession.
After locking out the second row on the grid, the silver arrows of Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton were able to gain good points around the Yas Marina circuit finishing in third and seventh place respectively, with Mercedes extending their second place lead over Ferrari to 11 points in the F1 Constructors’ Championship.
The Drivers’ Championship may have already been won by Sebastian Vettel, behind him there’s still plenty of action with only 24 points separating Raikkonen, Hamilton, Webber and Rosberg in the fight for third.
Following the race, Hamilton was quick to praise the work of his team-mate: “Nico did a really good job today to maximise the potential of the car. Hopefully the last two races will be stronger for me and I look forward to the challenge.”
With the focus still on the Constructors’ Championship, Rosberg was happy to have increased their lead over Ferrari. He said: “As a team we scored some great points for the Constructors’ Championship this weekend and I’m very happy about that.”
The penultimate race of the 2013 FIA Formula One World Championship is the United States Grand Prix in Austin, Texas on 15-17 November.
