Mercedes AMG Petronas increased their lead in second place over Ferrari to 15 points in the Constructor’s Championship after another double points finish at the United States Grand Prix.
After starting the race in 12th position, Nico had more of a challenge on his hands compared to team-mate Lewis who qualified in fifth.
Following a tight fought battle with Force India’s Paul Di Resta to get into the points, Nico finished the race in ninth position.
Towards the end of the race, the Ferrari of Fernando Alonso was hunting down Hamilton’s Mercedes, but Lewis’ determination saw he keep the Ferrari behind him to take the chequered flag in fourth place. He said: “There was no way I was letting Fernando past at the end; I was ready for him to make his move and had a couple of tenths ready to pull out if he did!”
After a solid race, Lewis edged ahead of Kimi Raikkonen in the Driver’s Championship to take third with Nico maintaining sixth position.
The final race of the 2013 FIA Formula One World Championship is the Brazilian Grand Prix at Sao Paulo’s Interlogos circuit on 22-24 November.
