Fresh off the production line
Less than a year after first opening its new plant in Kecskemét, Hungary, Mercedes-Benz has announced the completion of the first CLA model – which has been built exclusively at the new facility just outside Budapest. To celebrate the occasion, the plant manager, Frank Klein, welcomed Hungarian prime minister Victor Orbán and the head of Mercedes-Benz Cars, Dr. Dieter Zetsche, to the plant – both of whom had originally been present at the building’s official opening ceremony only 10 months previously. The factory also builds the Mercedes-Benz B-Class, and has already produced over 40,000 of that model and helped it to reach its best ever numbers for annual sales worldwide.
The CLA is literally in a class of its own, as Mercedes-Benz intends to establish a brand-new segment with the car. Built with advanced, forward-thinking dynamics, it’s styled with adventurous coupé lines and curves, developing and extending the legacy that the Mercedes-Benz CLS has created. The manufacturer’s innovative 4MATIC all-wheel drive is available as an option for the new model, which is equipped with the unique Collision Prevention Assist system as standard.
Production of the Mercedes-Benz CLA began only a couple of days after its official world première, which took place during the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in Berlin, and the completion of the first model has coincided with this year’s Detroit Motor Show. Anticipation for the new car was high even before full commercial production was announced, as Dr. Zetche explained: “The CLA is based on the Concept Style Coupé, which we introduced last year. The most frequent comment by far was “Please put this car into series production.” That’s precisely what we are doing now.”
Plant manager Frank Klein added: “The plant’s entire team can’t wait to get the CLA to our customers as perfectly as the B-Class cars we build in Kecskemét. We aim to follow up seamlessly on what we achieved in our first, very successful production year of 2012.”
The brand new Mercedes-Benz CLS can be pre-ordered for its arrival in April from approved dealerships throughout the UK now, including the Mercedes-Benz Retail Group dealer network across England. Call or visit today to register your interest in the new four-door coupé.
