News from Geneva: Mercedes-Benz A45 AMG Edition 1
The first of two Mercedes-AMG models making a debut at this year’s Geneva Motor Show is the A 45 AMG Edition 1 – and judging by the first few reports, it stuns in both looks and performance.
AMG’s trademark rear aerofoil perches on the back of the new A 45, and the front splitter is noticeably bigger on the Edition 1 than on other models. The other upgrades to the car’s look include the AMG Exterior Carbon-Fibre package, side sill panel inserts, and a new trim on the rear apron. Altogether, the enhanced aura of the A 45 AMG gives it the bold yet refined appearance to match its new position at the top of the range.
The brief glimpse that we’ve seen of the inside shows red-accented instruments, a bright touchscreen on the dash and wheel-mounted controls. The typically luxurious interior with soft leather and smart black looks to yet again be the standard. Early indications are that the Edition 1 will be compatible with a range of Mercedes-Benz apps, and we’re excited to see what the capability of the in-car technology truly turns out to be.
To power such a gorgeous car, Mercedes-AMG has fitted the Edition 1 with a turbocharged 2.0-litre engine. With an awe-inspiring 360bhp, it charges from 0-60 in just over four seconds. Such a high level of performance sends this AMG veering confidently into supercar territory. As with the majority of Mercedes-Benz vehicles, the top speed has been electronically limited to 155mph – but with such a tremendous engine and the AMG Speedshift seven-speed gearbox, the true potential of this car is likely to be far higher.
We’ll have even more Mercedes-Benz news from the Geneva Motor Show as the event progresses.
